Spirit of Family; Arbikie Mixology Masterclass

Tue, October 24, 2017 – Boisdale of Bishopsgate

Our love-in with kitchy-eccentric restaurant and jazz venue; Boisdale continues at pace. We had so much fun at our Gin-cocktail making event in June that we’re back again for another 50/50 joint. Yes 10 of their members and 10 of ours. Who knows what mischief we’ll get up to – but I’m thrilled to be there as a fly on the wall and fellow imbiber!

Members you are invited to a 90-minute Arbikie mixology event. Arbikie is the world’s first single estate distillery producing vodka, gin and whisky from ingredients grown on their farm. Brothers – John, Iain and David Stirling grew up on the Arbikie Estate and turned it into a bona fide craft distilling centre. Join us for a journey from field to bottle and find out why Arbikie has just been awarded the Scottish Gin distillery of the year.

Enjoy an Arbikie Gin and tonic on arrival and their global brand ambassador Alex will then guide you through their world-class spirits and give you an interactive cocktail master class where you will get to create your own cocktails.

We will help mix you up with the other singles, to create a cocktail showdown, crushing the ice, twisting the lime, stirring and shaking it about before you consume the creations.

* Membership to the Boisdale Club is £240 a year but if you are a Rendezvous Club member you are invited to join for just £95.00.

Giddy in Chelsea – 12th September

Goat Chelsea. 333 Fulham Road. Tuesday 12th of September.
Our members arrived for pre-event drinks (prinks) with the photo savvy Ms Laura Gub who is Brand You Max. Her company specializes in getting the photo that shows the best side of you. And we all want shine on social and frankly look hot to trot!
This September party signalled the start of the Autumn, and getting together with old and new single friends. Cherry blossom Bellini’s got the tongues wagging. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and stories.
The gang settled into the laid-back vibe at Goat, it has the comforting feeling of a place where we’ve all been before? Actually, come to think of it there were quite a few of us in the room who used to frequent this joint when it was a shabby Chelsea pub called the Goat in Boots….back in the day. I would know that because I was one of them! Those were the days when Rendezvous didn’t need to organize parties for singles – pubs were the place to party for singles – you just hit the right day of the week and hey presto – Giddy up!
But in the heyday of heads in phones we all need a little bit of help to meet some new friends and romantic acquaintances. And from the look of the room and numbers changing hands, it looks like our job was done.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon x

Summer Loving | Summer Party

Tuesday 4th July

Bernardi’s Dog House Room:  Marylebone W1.

Summer Parties! In the depths of winter just the thought of them can be one of the things that keep you keeping on. Trouble is, come the summer there are just too many of them. Diaries are packed, statement events are booked; we are all looking tippety-top in our sun-kissed summer best; now, can we fit them all in.

Not to be outdone, Rendezvous pulled out all the stops to make sure our party was a date not to be missed.   So fair play to all of those guests who tore themselves away from earlier engagements to join us. Never have we run a party where such a large amount of guests turned up over half way through the event!   Stragglers until late….in the bar till late, well someone had to keep them company!

The evening kicked off with a pre-event soiree for our Club Members hosted by our delightful friend and Date Coach Ané Auret.   Ané specializes in helping women find love all over again.  Turning a possible negative into a positive, she muses that we should never imagine that the best relationship is behind us; au contrair! The best is yet to come.   I couldn’t agree with her more.  I looked around the room at all the fabulous looking women; confident, smart, parents of accomplished children, financially secure … and thought “you men have got some amazing women here to choose from; you better get cracking and take some phone numbers!!”

Bernardi’s has become a firm favourite with our crew.  Not only does it reside in the newly-formed Portman Estate’s chic street Seymour Place, but they have the coolest interior and we get to have our very own room – the naughty corner in the basement bar, complete with an outside courtyard that was clearly the place to be.  ‘You will always find me in the courtyard at parties’, as Jonah Louie would have sung had he been there, and boy, he should have been.

We were greeted with a glass of prosecco and then treated to a procession of gorgeous canapés.   Assiette after assiette of delicious nibbles – from bruschetta to arancini, to delicious amuse-bouches and then teeny mouthfuls of pudding too.   Lemon meringue mini tarts anyone? I almost forgot I had given up sugar – oh go on, just the one….munch.

Just to add a little bit more fun to our Summer Loving theme our star guest was the Photo Booth.  Those clever creatives at Momentus Photo Booths dropped by and set up a party-sized booth, complete with two cheeky chappies on hand to answer any questions.  With a glass of confidence inside us and the party in full swing beside us, the Photo Booth is the guest that just keeps on giving; it’s the ice-breaker that takes the must-have pictures.  And the photos are spectacularly flattering; everyone looks a better/younger/thinner version of themselves.  And they’re always fun for everyone, whether you’re 5 or 105 years old.

I think you’ll agree we all looked like we were having a fabulous time.  One or two in the booth – or maybe let’s just see if we can squeeze in five.  What a hoot.   And who had the most photo stand-offs?  Was it Lou Lou or was it Richard? No, having his photo taken for a change, it was Rendezvous’ fave photographer Stevie Roberts, that’s who!

So there we have it, Summer Loving, it was a blast, Summer Loving it happened so fast.   Summer days drifting away, oh ho for the summer nights.

Wella, wella…have an amazing summer everyone – looking forward to seeing you all in September.

Boisdale: The Art of Gin Cocktail Making

Tuesday 6th June.

If you think Rendezvous is just about matchmaking people – you’re partly right but we’re also pride ourselves in being pretty good at matching ourselves to brands to give our singles the best possible backdrop to a perfect social night out.

Boisdale’s last week was a balmy summer evening, buzzing, boisterous and bubblicious a bloody-brilliant Thomas Dakin Gin event in the back bar.  The effervescent and contagiously-enthusiastic head of events for Boisdale the delicious Mark Shelton and I hatched a plan a few months back to do a mash-up of our two members clubs.  Boisdale members to be mixed with Rendezvous club members.

This mix-up theme got our crew mixing cocktails.  And they got really involved!  Thomas Dakin Gin curator Alix Walker in his flat cap and waistcoat, shared his stuff about the history of Gin. Thomas Dakin was an entrepreneur and a forefather of Gin in the 18th Century.  At the time only the Dutch were dabbling with the stuff and calling it Juniper; the Brits took the fluff out of that name and got it down to a neat abbreviation that would roll off the tongue in any state of inebriation.  Cheers.

Our crew got to work behind the bar, shaking, swizzling and stirring in pairs, freshly  prepared cocktails were passed to new friends but some were just too good to give up!

Whatever happened the combination of mixing, stirring, muddling and laughing made for a superbly good fun night.  And just to conclude my theme on all things good starting with B (modest moi?) …can we just say Boisdale Belgravia – Back Bar….the coolest little cocktail bar in town.

Here’s the creations that Alix himself came up with and we got to shake up.

The Manchester Bee
Serve in Coupettes or Martini glasses

  • 35ml Thomas Dakin Gin
  • 2 tsp of honey
  • 25ml lemon juice

In a shaker stir honey with the Thomas Dakin gin until dissolved, add the rest of the ingredients.  Shake or stir with ice and strain into a Martini glass. Garnish with thin orange wheel float.

Tom’s Spritz
Serve in a Casablanca style glass/tall rocks glass.

  • 35ml Thomas Dakin Gin
  • Sugar syrup
  • Ground Black pepper
  • Basil
  • Lemon juice

In a glass pop the basil first and muddle, followed by the black pepper, Gin and sugar syrup and top up with your favourite mixer.   Ours was by fab mixers Brand Merchants Heart in their lemon flavour.

We had such fun with Boisdale we will be having another event in August.  If you would like to be on the waitlist for the event as it sold out quickly.  Please email barbara@rendezvous-london.com

Francotastic Wine Tasting April 2017

Every year we look forward to the spring, the warm, longer days and Franco’s rosé wine list launch, unofficially considered the start of the summer season! What could be more agreeable than enjoying a crisp glass of rose accompanied by delicious canapés chosen from the largest restaurant selection of international rosé wines in Europe (seventy to be exact.)
Franco’s party is now in its 10th year and Rendezvous never being one to miss an opportunity is in its second year of our fabulous Francotastic wine tasting. A party of our very own in a private room and set up off the back of the launch party held the previous night.
Looking around the room and at the glistening pink bottles I had to think…. that’s a whole lot of tasty beverage – no hold fire (literally) I’m in the wrong film reference ….this is no Pulp Fiction of a night, I am certain there’s going to be some True Romance!

Franco’s director and restauranteur, Jason Phillips introduced the night and how the party had come about and the extensive list we would be tasting. Also giving the studious sorts a chance to answer the wine quiz and demonstrating how the Coravin system works, if on the rare chance you can’t finish that bottle of Domaine Ott you bought on a whim while flirting in the queue at Majestic; this is the gadget du jour!

Delightful entertaining and talented portrait photographer Stevie Roberts took the photos. I have got some lovely photos if any guests would like them please ask.

It was lovely seeing so many people travel in from so far and I’m not just talking The Shires, Brighton or Norfolk – there was Majorca, Monaco and India in the mix – you thoroughly international jet set crew you!

As the evening was winding up charismatic Gianmarco Franco (I’m always partial to a bit of Italian) sorted the quiz answers and we drew the name out of the champagne bucket – the winner of two bottles of rose was our good friend and Saga cruise Doctor Diane, she had already left to pack her cruise collection wardrobe and her Doctor’s kit to set sail the following morning. I’ll keep them safe, don’t you worry Diane!

Thank you to Franco’s wonderful team, you are a true credit to your business and thank you for allowing Rendezvous to be included as part of the unofficial start to the season…..Jason, Imogen, Samir, Gianmarco, Francesco.

Tuesday 21st March.  Styling with Suitsupply City Store

Above the of hum drum of chatting members in this swish outfitter our darling friend and resident Dapper Cad (Jonathan) JT hosted our event with a focus on men’s date-wear.   It was JT who introduced us to slick Dutch tailor Suitsupply and what a great introduction it turned out to be.  I imagine fans of the brand are not too thrilled that we are divulging this little gem of a secret stylish product that utterly screams tailor-made but for a snip of the price.

Five of our fabulous guests/models took the plunge for makeover.  Well done men for being such sports.  Jonathan and his team of Suitsupply experts introduced the men as they were and then took them back stage (well into dressing rooms) and proceeded with a complete change of look.

Bring on the boys for a quick twirl (or bow) and then into the audience for a chat while their new look settled into our viewers focus.  The audience voted for the man who best suited their new look.  Not who was most dapper or who wore the suit best – but who was completely transformed by their new look.   The results were amazingly even – I suspect lots of friends were there voting for their friends as good friends should!  But our Construction Company owner Jake wowed the crowds with his just-got-off-a-yacht in Cannes look and won by just a tip of his Panama hat.  What fun – and he got to choose a dapper blazer to compliment his new look.

Dapper Cad Cocktail

While the winners whirled, the stylish men grabbed their girls…. oops I mean their jackets – we clip-clopped off to the fabulous Bar20. What a welcome we got Mariusz, Massimo, Massimiliano and Andrea presenting us with an array of Gin cocktails delicious and perfectly paired by Sipsmith Gin.

The Dapper Cad, Tactile Property and Made to Measure exquisitely tailored for our members with divine spring flavours including strawberry, rhubarb and lavender.

Talking of Spring I do hope you’re joining us for our famous Franco’s Rose Wine Tasting it’s on the 26th of April; tickets are available now.

Choc chat & Apps

Chocolate, Chat and Apps. Ladies-only event.

Artisan du Chocolat. 21st February 2017

We had an amazing evening this week at Artisan du Chocolat. I don’t know about you, but I am so fond of my female friends and having a night with just the girls for a change was a treat. At Rendezvous we believe that if you’re single you should explore every avenue to find your perfect partner. Now Dating Apps aren’t for everyone and certainly not for the faint hearted, but if there are a few of us out there who are brave enough to venture out and meet some new men via the safe apps that digital expert Louise Robertson recommended during our event and then bring them along to a Rendezvous event to join the fun….what is there to lose!

Delightful Dating Coach Ané Auret chatted to us about not limiting ourselves to the ‘he’s not my type’ shrug-off we all know so well. But rather being open to finding someone who will respect and adore you just as much as you can do for them.

Read Ané’s blog below.

Some lovely feedback:

Once again Barbara, you have excelled! A truly inspirational evening for ladies with fabulous Chocolate, Chats and Apps on the menu at Artisan Du Chocolat.
Introducing us all to the safe apps, giving some of us lessons to take away and experiment with, and chatting to like-minded ladies. Ane Auret is a true delight. Her experience and insights were so global, it was reassuring! I will certainly be looking forward to chatting with her further. Thank you for a wonderful evening, and I look forward to future events with a renewed confidence!”

Dear Barbara
Thank you for a lovely night last night. It was such an indulgent environment to gain the confidence to tackle those dating Apps! Lou was hugely reassuring about the safety aspects and the Ane offered insight into how we could help ourselves find the right relationship. And there was lots of chocolate!”

Ané’s blog – ‘he’s not my type’

The evening marked nearly 7 years since I first met my (second) husband. I shared the story of how I walked into a room –– and there he was. Bald, 12 years older than me and not the kind of 6-foot rugby player that I had insisted was my type.

But what was impossible to ignore was his amazingly strong, confident presence. His ‘vibe’ or energy, some might say aura. It’s the thing that we as human beings have the most amazing ability to tune into and creates the deepest of connections.

To this day, I still think his vibe is his most attractive quality. Aside from thinking he’s the sexiest man alive!

So what do I mean by vibe exactly?

Your vibe is what you consistently project to others around you – consciously and unconsciously. It is what you believe to be true about yourself: your desire to love and to be loved. Your desire to be accepted and seen. It is your shadow and your light. It is the fears, doubts and insecurities you carry. But it is also your deepest held beliefs about love, relationships, dating, men, women, intimacy, sex and commitment – and your place in it.

In our own unique ways, our vibe can be the main thing that blocks us from being open to love. It can be all-powerful, like it was for my husband, or it can stop love in its tracks. Just like that.

When I work with my clients, we spend a lot of time getting to the root of what may be blocking them or holding them back from finding love. We explore:

– What do I project to others?
– What are my destructive beliefs, stories, insecurities, fears and unresolved pain?
– What might I have been doing for a lifetime that I need to learn to leave behind?

Until we get to the root of what is blocking love from our lives we won’t change our experience of love.

The truth about finding love (again) and attracting the right person for you is not about the external tactics – the ‘rules’ or game strategies – but the inner work and shifts you have the power to make. This is the key to stop second guessing yourself and the worry about whether you are getting it right or wrong on the dating scene.

5 ways you may be blocking yourself from finding love (again)

1. Ambivalence
My clients often tell me they are ready for a committed relationship but at the same time, they are sabotaging their chances of success because of an internal commitment that is actually more important to them at this stage in their lives. It may be their career, it may be their freedom or it may be that they’re not sure about sharing their life, home, family or even finances again.

2. Being out of alignment
This happens when your desires, thoughts, actions and beliefs are out of line. An example of this is when you say you want a committed relationship, but keep investing time in hookups, short term flings or spending time with someone you know deep down is not right for you. You keep hoping this person will change into what you want them to be.
It could also be that you say you want a relationship, but deep down have no belief that it will happen for you, stay in night after night and don’t create any new connections or expand your social circle.

3. Not being ready
Let’s be honest: the dating scene is in no way an even playing field. There are plenty of people out there who aren’t ready for a relationship, but they start relationships – sometimes over and over again. When you’re not truly relationship ready, you may push people away as soon as they get close, or you may still be emotionally connected to your ex. You can check out whether you need a little readiness TLC with my quick and easy Relationship Readiness Quiz here: www.datingcoach.uk/quiz

4. Unresolved wounds and triggers
Bringing unresolved grief, trauma and emotions into your dating journey and a new relationship can cause so much hurt. Again, these are things that we project onto others – fear of being hurt again, fear of trusting someone again, fear of rejection. Getting into dating and a relationship from a position of fear and loneliness is not the best starting point for the healthy, happy and mature relationship you’re looking for.

Resolution needs to come before connection.

5. Blind spots around your habits and patterns
We are all beautiful and wonderful in our own way. And we all have set ways of behaving in a relationship that are based on how we feel about ourselves. These can be constructive or destructive. It is our job to get to the root of the habits and patterns that don’t serve us well – and it’s not always that easy because we often have blind spots when it comes to our own behaviour.

One of the harshest truths I ever had to face about my journey to find love again was this:

The relationships we attract mirror the relationship we have with ourselves.

If you’re not getting the results you want in your love life, or you keep attracting the ‘wrong’ kind of people, I’d encourage you to look inwards first.

You can change the dating site, app, parties, events and even partners as often as you like, but unless you do the work you uniquely need to do, you may keep ending up back at square one.

Your best relationship is still ahead of you. And I’m excited for you!

Love,

Jazz at Boisdale

Jazz up your January party. Tuesday Jan 10th. Boisdale of Bishopsgate

So down a very dark and narrow alley we went – that being the eccentric approach to the venue of our January party. But then there’s a lot about Boisdale that’s eccentric, which, no surprise, is exactly what attracted me to the kooky-kitsch, red-walled, tartan-clad, cigar-smoking, jazz-loving group of restaurants in the first place!
With its charming and capable fun-pectation team (not naming any names…Mark Shelton GM), what could possibly go wrong?
Mark’s team, lead by unflappable Ines and cocktail maestro Anna, introduced us to a cocktail so delicious you really must try it at home.

The Dubliner Twist
45ml Dubliner whisky
15ml orange juice
10ml homemade vanilla syrup
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Stir, strain in a rocks-filled glass

The night took off at a gallop and there were so many of us we were split into two groups. Dublin Liberties Irish Whiskey Ambassador Geoff Spieron with his soft Irish lilt led the assault on our palates with a glorious taste tour and masterclass. But wait, where’s the assault of Scottish proportions as we know it? This Irish stuff is mellow – it won’t singe your nose hair if you mistakenly think its wine and sniff it and is gone before you can say that’s a fret.
Boisdale! If you’re listening, we all loved The Dublin Liberties whiskeys and can’t wait to try them again!
As Geoff charmed our palates with his whiskey non-assault course, delightful Artisan du Chocolates ambassador Danny wowed us with a chocolate pairing combination that really hit the spot. She paired:
Dublin Liberties Oak Devil with dark chocolate ganache with honey
Dubliner 10-year old single malt with liquid sea salted caramel with pink and black peppercorns

Finally, we finished off with Feeney’s Irish liqueur and vanilla ganache, leaving no stone of our taste-bud-challenged palates unturned.
Moving upstairs to the bar our boisterous crowd barely drew breath. Lots of new friendships were formed, numbers exchanged and, empowered with our deeper awareness of whiskey and chocolat, we snuck back up the alley. Eventually, that is – the last of our 8.30 finishers (er, including moi) were quietly, but firmly asked to leave the building at 11.00. We found another hot spot – The Devonshire Club around the corner, who were unbelievably tolerant of our slightly-slurred giggly cocktail demands. What a blast! To everyone involved in setting up this epic fun-feast, let’s do it again soon!

Art of Jewels

Weds 14th December. 68 Kinnerton Street. Knightsbridge. London SW1X 8ER

Rendezvous Club members mingled with The Golden Network members for a sparkling evening of champagne, diamonds and art in a gorgeous photographer’s studio.

Our glasses were kept charged with Colcombet champagne Introduced by the charming Henri Colcombet this boutique brand’s owner. This beautiful champagne is available from the  Mayfair wine emporium Hedonism. Our non-fizz drinkers were kept happy with plentiful wine choices. Bancroft wines Sophie Maclean shared her wine knowledge with us and introduced the superb Bouchon vineyard wines….a whole smooth drinkable choice for every palate.

Parisian designer Edeenne brought together her stunning creations by telling each designs individual story. As well as being captivated by her fun and inspiring story we tried on the sparkles and hoped that one would be under our tree in a few days’ time! Santa baby leave one under the tree, for me.

What a privilege to be in Andrea Hamilton’s artist studio in Knightsbridge, a must visit for anyone looking for Christmas Art The Blue Edition is perfect, curated by our talented friend Nico Kos Earle. Nico introduced the show helping us to discover works exclusively for the show around the concept of blue, created by ten major female artists – exploring the infinite variations of blue across a wide range of media

We loved mingling with our members sipping Champagne, fine wine, admiring jewels, beautiful inspiring people and art…..nothing to be blue about in that mix.

Lady Luck Party

Putting on a fun face….putting on the Ritz

For the run up to our Lady Luck Party at Hippodrome Casino on 29th November, I’ve never known a party of ours to generate such an avalanche of interest. The inbox heaved, the texts piled up and the phone was off the hook with excitement at so many real live calls. Just like the old days. As I fielded all the excited enquiries, filled up the guest list and managed all the plus ones I was struck by what an amazing network of fun-free-single-and-up-for-its we have built up. You brave souls who are ready to jump out of your comfort zone and present your fun-faces to the world, albeit a carefully crafted world where friendship and pleasure are almost guaranteed – with a warm welcome and a generous glass of fizzy confidence just to ease you in. Beats those dating apps swipes hands down. And hands down (jokers wild!) was the name of the game as we braved the Leicester Square crowds and forced our way through to our own private entrance at the Hippodrome Casino.

With super slick staff from cloak room to bar, the casino is one confident operation and suddenly there we were with a high rolling luxury game room all to ourselves. Gaming expert Steve took to the floor to tell us how the dice would roll and the tables turn. Craps and Roulette just like Vegas –we’d all get a go and the person with the most chips would win a bottle of Moet. Count me in mister cool-cut croupier! No wallflowers and no pussyfooting; everyone was straight on it. This was a room full of winners just itching to try their luck. Gaming tables are a great way to meet people – rubbing shoulders, playing your cards right, trying your luck, one last desperate throw of the dice – all neat metaphors for the mating game (OK, no-one looked desperate). And with our own private bar – open all night – what could possible go wrong? And canapés darling, endless delicious canapés – tuna tartare, mini burgers, goat’s cheese lollipops and mini doughnuts …. body is a temple Sweetie.

There was a queue to have Christina read tarot cards.  She was non-stop for 3 hours.  Everyone coming away saying how on earth would she know that about me?  Isn’t she a gorgeous person; I just want to scoop her up and give her a hug and that was before she claimed my next husband was going to be a gorgeous George look-a-like…joking!

Things got rather competitive at the craps tables.  A property developer (he’s got to be good with numbers right) playing to win and a pretty statistician calmly cleaning up in her corner.  It was maximum fun.  F-U-N. How does all that fit into three letters!

The property guy won the champagne and in the generous spirit of the party, shared it out amongst guests….what a classy winner.

The evening wound reluctantly to a close, with various groups making plans to defect to party offshoots.  As we walked through the main casino to exit into the night, some guests were braving the gaming tables in the main casino.  Way to go guys, bravo!   What a great, great party. I am not exaggerating (as if) when I say I cannot wait to do another one. That’s just the way we roll…

Thank you so much Hippodrome’s Amy and Anna.   Gaming experts Steve and Sara.  Psychic Christina McCulloch and our stand-in guest list crew Simon and Jo.

Some lovely comments:

Hi Barbara

I enjoyed it – thank you for including me!

Thank you for hosting the very enjoyable evening at the Hippodrome Casino. As always it was a great atmosphere and everyone was so friendly and easy to talk to. I got totally absorbed in gambling at the roulette table. The croupier was helpful and happy to patiently explain to the novices how to play and to guide some of the more over enthusiastic ‘experts’! Delicious food and free flowing fizzy, all contributed to a great evening.  It was certainly somewhere I’d never been to before, what a huge building! it was fascinating to visit the public casino area later see all those guys transfixed at the tables and at the computer screens….another world!

Looking forward to your next event.   J x
