Smith & Whistle, found in the Park Lane Hotel, takes inspiration from the fictional Detective Inspector, Smith and his equally fictional side-kick Mr Whistle; a legendary high-class (read: crook with class). Apparently, the two sleuths would occasionally meet here on the sly and trade tip-offs. Well I wish someone had tipped us off earlier, this bar happily lacks none of the usual Hotel-stuffiness. It’s a very sexy lounge with none of the Mayfair pretention (and easy on the wallet too).
Expect great cocktails – actually ours are a whistle-worthy £10 for two until 8pm. Followed reassuringly by competent canapés with a twist. The room is ours for the night and we will be joined by friends from the industry enjoying a pre-Christmas drink or two and on the way out a goodie bag just to prove the Christmas is not just for December.
